For most small time Internet marketers hiring a SEO consultant seems unnecessary and most could not even afford one anyways. But here is one way to view hiring an SEO consultant as a long term investment.

The idea is to hire a consultant to help with your initial website and then learn all the steps that they do to help get your site ranking very high. Then you can repeat the steps yourself on all your subsequent websites.

Obviously this works only if the person shares all of their SEO tips and techniques with you. You could put this clause in your contract that you sign with them that they will fully disclose all the steps that they take and the websites that they use to help get your website ranking well.

If you view hiring a consultant this way, then most small time Internet marketers cannot help but view hiring someone like this as a great long-term investment.

Since most Internet marketers have dozens of sites, this can be a great way to shorten your learning curve by learning from someone who is already mastered this field. Learning from a master can shorten your learning curve dramatically.

Hiring an SEO consultant is cheaper than you think, and in some cases you pick and choose certain packages. And if you learn enough about SEO, then you could open up your own consulting firm as a great way to supplement your income. In fact many SEO experts make a great living doing just this.

Many people get frustrated because their search engine optimization efforts don’t seem to be paying off and their website doesn’t even seem to rank in the top 30 for their desired keyword. If you are in this situation, like many of us are at some time in our lives, then here are 3 tips to thing about and see if they apply to your situation.

Not Enough Time

Many people often make changes in their SEO strategy and expect to see results right away. You have to remember that search spiders can be very slow to update sometimes so you have to have patience.

Very Competitive Niche

For people who choose to enter a very competitive niche, it can take a lot of work and time before you begin to get a good ranking, but it can happen. Hopefully you’ve picked a lucrative niche where your results will pay off in end with a nice monetary reward in the near future.

Tricking Search Engines

Some people resort to illegal techniques to try and get their websites to rank high. Whether this is done out of ignorance or maliciously doesn’t matter. The search spiders don’t like to be tricked, and when they do catch you, they will punish you.

There really is not secret to getting ranked high in the search engines. It just takes hard work and time. It may be tempting to try and trick the search spider, but don’t do it. In the end your hard work should pay off.

A lot of blogs are using WordPress because it is one of the most SEO-friendly Content Management System (CMS). So here i am going to list some SEO tips to improve your WordPress blog. These are important things to get your WordPress blog optimized. It will help you gain more traffic and rank better in search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.

    * Install WordPress Plugins
You can get a lot of free plugins online and they will help a lot in optimizing your blog.

    * Optimize permalinks
The default permalink is not SEO-friendly and should be changed right away. For me, the most SEO-friendly would be to use /%postname%/ which will make something like this yoursitename/yourpostname . You can change your permalink by going to Settings >> Permalinks and choose custom structure and input /%postname%/ .

    * Optimize page titles
Page titles are the most important in your single page and should be placed between h1 tags. Titles should be short but keyword-rich.

    * Remove hyperlink of the Title of your single posts
I saw a lot of blogs that hyperlinks the title of their single posts and this is no longer needed since it will still link on the same page. You can easily edit it at Presentation and edit the single.php file.

    * Validate your code
There are a lot of tools online that you can use to validate your code. By validating your code, it will help search engines to crawl your site easier. This requires knowledge in web design to fix these codes so if you can’t do it, you can hire a web developer to do it for you.

    * Add Meta Keywords and Description
Always add meta keywords and description to your blogs because it will help the search engines to identify what kind of blog you have. Choose your keywords wisely (means that you choose keywords that are not so competitive but has a good search volume).

    * Deep-Linking your posts
Deep-linking is where a post of yours links to another related post of yours. Choose the keywords to hyperlink wisely, choose the one that fits most to the post that you’ll be linking.

I am Bryan Joseph King and I’m a programmer and at the same time doing SEO and I’m here to share tips on how to optimize your site or blog. Hope these tips of mine will be a help to you and bring more traffic to your blog/site.

There are a lot of things in the computer world that people tend to find mysterious and they see as touching upon black magic. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of those things that ranks way up there on the mystery and black magic scale. Today, the term has expanded to Search Engine Marketing which includes paid advertising and other online marketing activities but for our purposes we’ll stick with SEO.

SEO is the practice of promoting a web site by increasing its position in search results on the major search engines. Those search engines comprise of Google mainly but also include Yahoo!, Bing, and a few others. The idea is to make the site appear higher in the list of search results than similar sites. This is referred to as “organic” SEO meaning that the rank came as a result of plain old search results rather than having to pay for placement on the search engine.

There’s a lot of value in getting it right as far as SEO goes. First of all it’s free and second of all, web searches are becoming the primary means of finding information. Primary among the search engines is Google and according to some market research, Google commanded an incredible 81.22% of the global market share in June 2009. Google’s success is punctuated by the fact that the word “Google” has found its way into the dictionary.

The primary goal of the search engines is to bring relevant search results to their users. When a user types in a search phrase, a search engine is successful when it delivers the information the user is searching for. If a search engine is unable to deliver relevant information it simply won’t be long on the digital scene.

Performing this feat is the result of a mix of highly sophisticated programming, incredibly powerful servers, and perhaps some eye of newt and toe of frog thrown in for good measure.

Seriously, however, the full mechanics of how search engines rank web pages are kept highly confidential. It simply has to be that way or the bad guys of the world would use the knowledge to artificially inflate their own rankings.

There are some fundamental truths in SEO and it is fair to say that search engines today consider the following when ranking a given web page:

    * The content of the page – what it’s about, what words are used prominently.
* What words are used in the title of the page?
* What words are used in the URL of the page?
* What words are highlighted on the page?
* What internal links (links from other pages on the same site) point to it?
* How many external links point to it and more importantly, whether those pages are relevant to the page’s subject matter?
* The text used to form the internal and external links.
* Even the age of the domain name plays a role in its ranking!

There is a lot more involved of course and that list could have gone on for a while. Factors such as keywords, the use of images and Flash animations, and the design of the site itself also play a role in a page’s ranking.

Good SEO checklists can be found on the web but probably the most important thing to think about doesn’t involve search engines at all. That’s the quality of the content.

Ultimately a search engine’s goal is to return relevant information to its visitors. As such, search engines have become very sophisticated at figuring out whether or not content is relevant to the search term and indeed, whether a human would find it interesting.

SEO is a fascinating subject and the search engines are incredibly complex examples of computer programming. They are so good in fact that the best advice one could give someone looking to increase their placement is – write your content for people and not the search engines. You’ll be rewarded for it.

SEO is not rocket science; it’s much more difficult than rocket science. To become a ninja-level SEO master takes years of practice for most people, and like a ninja if you don’t practice, one quickly loses one’s skills. The reason for this is that the search algorithms shift constantly, and as they are well guarded secrets, you never know what the search engineers are up to. No, it’s not rocket science; It’s more like reverse engineering a UFO that you can only see off in the distance and whose propulsion system constantly shifts gears.

It is extremely difficult to be a true expert in this field. The competition is fierce, and one mistake can cost you months of work. If you are working for a client, you had better be certain that you do not get their site thrown into the “sandbox,” meaning that it will never be found. This is like being exiled to the far reaches of the Internet where only the most intrepid explorers will ever find them. It’s not good for business.

For this reason, it is extremely important to choose the right SEO company or employee if you are in business. If you want to become that person (the right SEO company or employee), here is what you need to do:

Administer at least five websites for at least a year. Do not link them to each other. Each is its own little petri dish that must not be contaminated.

Be scientific about it. Develop theories and test them rigorously. Keep track of results. Note changes in the way the search engines index your site and in the way your visitors find it, and connect those changes to actions that you have taken (link building, keyword weight, social networking, etc.)

Learn how to find the right keywords. This is not as simple as finding words that people search for and that are not insanely competitive. In this, you have to be somewhat intuitive. What keyword combination is a potential customer likely to use as opposed to a bored web surfer?

Use different tools until you find one that works. I have my favorite, but I’m not allowed to mention it. Follow the link in the resource box and surf around my blog. You’ll figure out what it is. It may not be for you, but you can try it free.

Get at least 20 pages to the top for fairly competitive keywords. This is what turns prospects into clients.

Be a ninja. Once you figure out how to do it, take a cue from the people who write the search algorithms and keep it to yourself. Also train and improve continuously so that your skills do not slip.

That is how to become an SEO guru who commands top dollar with good reason, the good reason being that you know how to attract the right people, not just the most people. More on that later.

Are you really as good as you think you are? You might want to check out my blog, especially the post on recent changes in the SEO game, before you get your sites sandboxed!
